How a defined workspace impacts your productivity
And why you should make your workspace truly for "you"
Our physical environments have a huge impact on what we produce. If you fall asleep in your bedroom with the lights on you wouldn’t have a proper amount of sleep.
The same can be said about your workspace. If it’s cluttered and filthy — the likelihood of a highly productive day won’t be possible. So let’s look at the a few ways to make a defined workspace for yourself that allows you to be more productive.I personally feel that having a clean desk is not the only thing that affects your productivity there’s also various other not very commonly known things which I wanted to discuss in this blog post.
Where is your desk?
This I think plays a major role in how happy and focused you are during your work. Now, my desk is in the centre of the house the hub of all social activities which means that there is always a person in the same room as me. This could lead to a bunch of conversations that lighten your mood or these could be distracting never ending conversations. It depends on you, whether you want a conversation filled work hour or a deep focused work hour.If you want the latter I recommend settling in the corner of your room.
Cable Management.
This is in my opinion one of the most important things that could affect your productivity.Try and invest in some cable ties, boxes and racks.I’ll link a few of the best cable management videos on here.
Functionality & Familiarity
Do you know what each and every drawer of your desk is meant for, if you were to put away a file inside a drawer do you know exactly which drawer it is going in, if you do that means you are familiar with your setup which means that you have defined a space for everything to go in if not then it is time to work on it. Every item on your desk should have a space for it and you are the person to make to define spaces for everything.I found this video by Matthew Encina really helpful and you might to -
Color Scheme
This is important but people don’t notice it.A desk based around 2 or 3 colors is following a certain colour scheme but a desk that has various colors all over the desk is not following a colour scheme and looks dirty (at least for me). Some people really seem to like desks that don’t following colour scheme as it starts getting boring. So her is an example of a desk setup that is following a matte black everything colour scheme-
<the table, keyboard, table and chair are all black>
Here is a desk that isn’t following a colour scheme-
<the keyboard is white but the table is brown-is and the monitor is black>
Ergonomics
Make sure you're comfortable sitting on your desk for 12 hours a day. Here’s how
Finally! Operating system
This is the most important thing for me.I have used both windows and Mac computers but I think its safe to say that windows is crap when it comes to productivity. But it doesn’t have to be I recommend you clean up you computer and make the desktop personalised for you so that when you come to work on your computer you get a sense of energy that pumps you up for the day ahead.
here are a few video that show you how you can clean up your desktop:
